Why Speaking Opportunities
Are Part of a
CEO’s Digital Strategy
The line between PR and digital work is almost invisible. A conference appearance becomes a LinkedIn post. That post reaches an editor, who commissions a comment piece. The piece leads to an invitation to speak somewhere else.
In our experience, the strongest executive profiles operate as a two-way growth engine, where live speaking and digital presence constantly elevate one another. A consistent social presence establishes the baseline expectation of senior leadership, holding audience attention and ensuring journalists and event organisers discover your name. However, it is the live stage that gives that online presence genuine weight, generating enduring content and conferring a level of authority that cannot be self-issued. An hour spent leading a room creates the ultimate compound credibility for a leader’s broader digital profile.
The largest companies in the world still fill rooms
Apple could publish its product news in a press release. So could Google. Both build stages instead. Apple’s WWDC keynote in June 2025 drew 824,687 peak concurrent viewers on YouTube on its opening day. Canva came up with their signature real-world flagship event, Canva Create at the SoFi Stadium / YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, where members of their community, employees and influencers came together to celebrate their update.
The reasoning is commercial. A launch delivered live has a person attached to it, someone answering for the decision with a reputation on the line. Research from Freeman and the Harris Poll found that 95% of attendees trust a brand more after an in-person event. Freeman’s 2026 trends work found 70% of attendees rank live events as their leading source of professional learning. The Events Industry Council put global attendance at business events at 1.65 billion participants in 2025.
Rooms still convert belief. The results of in-person events also translate to CEOs and top leaders. The right stage turns words into immediate institutional credibility.
AIM TIP: Choose rooms that produce a usable record. A 200-person conference with a professional recording will do more for you over two years than a larger event with no camera present.
One appearance is worth thousands of views
TED Talks established the principle two decades ago. One prepared talk, delivered to the right room, could travel further than a year of owned communications. By April 2026, the TEDx catalogue alone held 257,697 talks, viewed close to nine billion times.
A single appearance now produces a recording, a transcript, a set of clips, a written argument you can place elsewhere, and a line on your profile that no self-published post can imitate. One booking brings about several months of material, all of it derived from thinking you had to do anyway.
A great speaking opportunity also has value in the AI world. OtterlyAI analysed more than 100 million AI citations across six platforms and found that 94% of YouTube citations were from long-form video. Views, likes, and subscriber counts showed almost no correlation with how often a video was cited. A recorded panel with a clean transcript can be surfaced to millions of people while a viral clip goes unquoted.
AI reads spoken content directly. They work from transcripts and chapter markers to establish what was actually said, then quote it back to someone who is researching the topics you talked about.
AIM TIP: Say the phrase you want to own. If your argument rests on a particular idea, name it clearly in the opening minutes and again at the close. That is the line editors quote and the line AI systems extract.
Credibility you cannot self-publish
Anyone can now generate polished text at volume. What nobody can generate is the fact that a conference committee, an editor, or a host organisation selected you, and that a real audience sat in front of you with the option to ask a difficult question.
AIM TIP: Structure the upload. Add chapters and a full transcript. Write the description as a reference document rather than a promotional blurb.
