The Intership Everyone
Should Aim For

By Sam Simpson

My time as an intern at Aim Agency has officially come to a close, and what a journey it’s been! From the complexities of public relations to supporting such a high-energy, collaborative team, this experience has been the perfect launchpad for my career.

If students are looking for an experience where they are engaged, supported, and active contributors to a team, Aim Agency offers an opportunity unlike any other.

Starting something new outside of my home country, the United States, brings a mix of emotions. Well before the start of my third year of college, I knew I wanted something outside of the traditional American college experience. The prospect of going abroad was exciting for me, but with that separation from the comfort I was used to also came uncertainty, and an overwhelming number of options. I looked at many different opportunities, mainly studying, but then I considered an internship that would put me on the front lines of my field of study.

Early in my second semester of college, I interviewed with Aim, and I was impressed by their work and success record. I was immediately eager to get involved. After weeks of writing to my internship coordinator to ask whether they had further considered my application, I received an offer.

The work I was assigned at Aim Agency challenged me to think critically and encouraged me to make a real contribution to the agency. I’m not sure how many interns can say they felt their opinions and insights were valued and encouraged by their host team – I can confidently say mine were. From the first week, I was doing work that was used and carefully reviewed by the team, which included client research, proposal creation, strategy development, and many other tasks.

Early in my internship, Aim was building a working relationship with an accomplished lifestyle architect and tech AI founder. I was tasked with creating a presentation that introduced new social media strategies to enhance her online presence. Not only did I conduct my own research on social media strategies and develop a presentation that exceeded expectations, but I also presented to the client and communicated the importance of a strong digital presence and how it would increasingly benefit her brand. These tasks required me to explore outside of my comfort zone, boosted my confidence and drive to learn, and encouraged me to contribute more in the workplace.

One of the most memorable parts of my internship was seeing how relationship-building and industry engagement happen outside the office: I attended an event with the agency’s founder and CEO, Mia Hadrill, at The Ned in London, where explorer and author Lucy Shepherd was speaking ahead of her upcoming book launch and signing. Hearing the discussion and seeing the audience it attracted demonstrated how powerful authentic storytelling can be when it is paired with the right platform and network.

Experiences like this showed me that the work at Aim extends well beyond desks, emails, and meetings. Whether attending events, building relationships or supporting clients, the team is constantly immersed in the industries and conversations that matter. It gave me a deeper understanding of how public relations operates in practice and reinforced the importance of curiosity and connection to the wider world.

Every day until my last week, I worked in the fast-paced environment at Aim Agency and was determined to keep up and deliver work that exceeded expectations. My days were filled with a variety of tasks that broadened my skill set, encouraged me to work closely with the team, build confidence in presenting to clients, use clear communication, operate in an organized fashion, utilize AI effectively, and much more.  This was an exceptional opportunity for me to gain real-world work experience. I learned far more with Aim than I could have behind a desk at school. My education back home in Virginia had prepared me to execute the tasks that came my way, but it was only when I got to the office in London and took on greater responsibilities that I took my skills to the next level and truly felt I was contributing to a team.

With a culture unlike any other I’ve been part of, it’s clear that Aim truly understands and embodies the importance of teamwork, communication, trust, and appreciation. I’m grateful to have worked alongside a team of incredibly hard-working and talented people whose work clearly makes a lasting impact among leaders, CEOs, founders, business executives, lawyers, and others. Though my time with Aim had to come to an end, I left London with a valuable and unique perspective. I came to London eager for an experience, and thanks to Aim, I am leaving with much more.
